Unions to Hold Lobby Day to Oppose Governor’s Proposed GIC Premium Increase
Governor Charlie Baker has included a provision in the fiscal year 2016 budget proposal that would shift the premium contribution rate ratio to 25/75 for all state employees. While there is currently no indication as to whether or not the legislature would agree to this proposal, we must oppose this measure in an effort to ensure that result. Already, OPEIU, Local 6 has sent a letter to the House Ways and Means Committee opposing the Governor’s budget proposal. Further, organized labor will be holding a Lobby Day at the State House to educate legislators on the impact of recent GIC cost-shifting measures and to oppose increasing premiums and further shifting costs to state employees, as is contemplated by Governor Baker’s fiscal year 16 budget. OPEIU, Local 6 will be completing an informational drop of materials to every legislator to support this effort. OPEIU, Local 6 members are also welcome to attend the Lobby Day:
