House and Senate Send Supplemental Budget Authorizing New Agreements to the Governor’s Desk Today, the Massachusetts House and Senate have enacted a supplemental budget containing language authorizing the new collective bargaining agreements between the Trial Court and OPEIU, Local 6, Units J6C and J6P; the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6; the Hampden Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6 and the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6. The language, which authorizes payment under each new contract, is required to comply with Mass. Gen. Laws chapter 150E, section 7. As you know, earlier this month the House and Senate had each passed supplemental budgets with slightly different language in sections not relating to OPEIU’s contracts. Over the last few weeks, the Senate and House have been working to reconcile the differing language. Now that the differences have been reconciled, the House and Senate have formally enacted the bill, readying it for final consideration by the Governor. Governor Patrick will now have ten days to review and sign or return the matter to the legislature. OPEIU would like to take this opportunity to thank House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray, House Ways and Means Chairman Brian Dempsey, Senate Ways and Means Chairman Stephen Brewer as well as House Minority Leader Bradley Jones and Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr for their efforts on this matter. We will keep you posted with further updates as the Governor takes action on this budget.
