Governor Signs Supplemental Budget Authorizing New Agreements
Governor Deval Patrick has signed a supplemental budget containing language authorizing the new collective bargaining agreements between the Trial Court and OPEIU, Local 6, Units J6C and J6P; the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6; the Hampden Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6 and the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds and OPEIU, Local 6 . The language, which authorizes payment under each new contract, is required to comply with Mass. Gen. Laws chapter 150E, section 7. OPEIU would like to take this opportunity to thank Governor Deval Patrick, A&F Secretary Glen Shor, House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray, House Ways and Means Chairman Brian Dempsey, Senate Ways and Means Chairman Stephen Brewer as well as House Minority Leader Bradley Jones and Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr for their efforts on this matter. OPEIU would also like to acknowledge the leadership of the Administrative Office of the Trial Court who weighed in with the Administration and respective Ways and Means Committee on behalf of this matter. As the legislation contained an “emergency preamble”, the provisions of the supplemental budget became effective at the time of the Governor’s signing of the legislation instead of after the usual 90 days.
